Riding Alone
I do like riding with friends and in small groups, but you know it can be a hassle.  There will
always be different personalities, different requests, different riding styles, etc.  You will get
the folks that like to rush between stops, or take too long.  I bought my bike to get relaxation
and enjoyment out of it - if your rushing from point to point you don’t have time to savour and
enjoy the ride.  A simple two hour ride can turn into an afternoon of stress.

Not all the time, but there will always be times when I like to ride alone.  Actually I love it,
then you get to ride your own ride.  You get to putt along and pace yourself in the way that
suits you.  There are basic rules you should follow when riding alone.  It doesn't matter if its
half day, weekend or several days.  You should be prepared.

1.  Tell someone, anyone of your route and when you think your arrival time will be.
2.  Make sure you know where you are going and have a good map or motorcycle guide and
make sure you keep it with you.
3.  Cell phones are a must when you travel alone.  It’s your best tool on the road.
4.  Tools - you know which ones you will need if you are in a crunch.
5.  Small first aid kit
6.  Bottle of water
7.  Extra cloths like sweater, t shirt, socks and of course rain gear.

Riding at night is very dangerous and I try to limit myself to night rides, around town is fine -
but at night I'm not looking to have unexpected encounters with bambi, the neighborhood
dog or drunk drivers.  I plan most of my solo rides early in the morning and I give myself
plenty of daylight driving time.

No matter where I go, whatever my destination - there is always another solo rider out there
taking a rest and ready to talk motorcycles.  Gotta love it!
